The accumulation is expected to be driven by the occurrence of a long-duration market bottom. Bitcoin has kept its price consistent around $60k to $65k, refusing to go below $60k despite bearish shocks. On the upside, its price is capped by sellers who wish to exit their investments. Therefore, as soon as Bitcoin crosses $65k, its sees massive selling which plunges its price again towards the aforementioned range.

How much BTC does El Salvador hold?

According to Arkham Intelligence, El Salvador holds approximately $457 million worth of Bitcoins. The country has been accumulating Bitcoin since 2022 and has never sold a single BTC despite pressure from the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and other organizations.

Here’s the summary of its holdings in the image below.

Where is Bitcoin headed in 2026?

Although market conditions are not favorable, institutions like Standard Chartered still expect Bitcoin to cross $100k by the end of the year, expecting regulatory clarity to be the main driver of Bitcoin’s growth, along with retail adoption and institutional accumulation.

The core factor acting against Bitcoin currently is a liquidity shortage caused by a market rotation of liquidity from crypto markets to AI and precious metals. We at BFM Times expect a drawdown in AI markets soon in 2026, which could possibly attract investors again towards crypto markets.

Another roadblock is the Clarity Act, which despite all efforts is becoming difficult to pass in the US Congress. The act is expected to provide regulatory clarity to US crypto-native companies and set global standards for other countries across the globe.

However, there is a hope that all these issues to get resolved within the year.
